Education System in Canada

Education in Canada is divided into 4 phases

       Pre-Elementary Education

Pre-Elementary is the first level of education in Canada, and it is provided to children aged 4 to 5 years old before they begin elementary school. The teaching programme is laid-back, providing an opportunity for young children to learn basic skills.

         Primary Education

Primary Education or Elementary School is compulsory for students beginning in grade 1 at 6 - 7 years old and continuing until grade 6 at 11 - 12 years old. Reading, Math, English, history, science, music, social studies, physical education, and art are included in the curriculum.

Post-Secondary Education

There are two secondary education stages in Canada -

Visa Requirements

  • You'll also need a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec, English and French translations of your documents, a statement from the translator, and a verified copy of the original documents if you want to study in Quebec.

Process

Step 1 - After you've been accepted to your preferred university, your institution will issue you a letter of enrollment confirmation

Step 2 - Visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website and begin your application.

Step 3 -   Pay the application fee- 150 CAD

Step 4 -  At the visa centre, you will be required to provide your "biometric information" as part of your visa application.

Step 6 - According to university policy, you must attend a visa interview.

Step 7 - Wait for your visa. The visa application procedure might take up to 90 days.

Post-Study Work Visa

International students in Canada can stay back and obtain a PGWP (Post Graduate Work Permit) after they finish their studies.

Eligibility

  • You must have completed a full-time course in Canada that lasted at least 8 months.

  • Within 180 days of finishing your degree, you must apply for a work visa. You must have formal confirmation from the college/university that you hold a valid degree.

  • When applying for the PGWP requires a valid student visa.

Duration

  • Studied for less than 8 months - you are not eligible for the PGWP programme.

  • Studied for less than 2 years but more than 8 months - you will be granted a work visa equal to your course duration.

  • Studied for more than 2 years - you will be granted a work visa for 3 years.
